The Ideation Conference: Setting Ideas Into Motion

ideationprofilepicMy friend Charles Lee is at it again! The creator of The Idea Camp has now moved into more of a coaching and guiding program through the Ideation Conference. One of the most-valuable things I have received during my time in ministry is when someone else takes the time to share their experiences, listen to my story, and then collectively put our heads together to find practical ways to get to the next level. The Ideation Conference starts off their first event doing this for those looking to either get started in or better-equip themselves in the area of humanitarian efforts and compassion causes. Here is how Charles outlines the purpose of the Ideation Conference on their website:

Ideas are a dime-a-dozen. What really brings positive change to an individual, organization, or business is the actual implementation of these ideas. But in order to get there, ideas need intentional strategy, development of skill-sets, sustainable infrastructure, and a viable network.

The !deation Conference was designed to help people move closer to implementing ideas through the gathering of leading innovators and practitioners from a given field in order to benefit others in their respective field of passion.

The inaugural !deation Conference on April 5-6, 2010 in Long Beach, CA will focus on the non-profit world, especially as it relates to humanitarian care. We are gathering some of the most innovative thinkers in this area that are bringing tangible change for millions around the world.

Designed as a conference to assist current professionals of humanitarian care as well as those desiring to enter the field, the smaller setting of this conference (under 400) will allow for in-depth dialogue, access to thought-leaders, and opportunities for networking.

As is always the case when Charles Lee is behind something, there will be discussions on social media and opportunities to network with others — it will be much, much more than a handshake and business card exchange.

So, if you’re looking to venture into the world of non-profit/NGO ventures or just want to learn how you might make a greater impact, make plans to be at The Ideation Conference in Long Beach, Californis April 5-6, 2010. Blog Open Mic (ala Eugene Cho style!)…represent!

I saw a post from Eugene Cho inviting people to leave comments about anything on his blog. He called it Blog Open Mic. So, rather than try to out-think him, I figured I’d try that concept here as well. Got something to say? A  website or project to shoutout about? Now’s your chance. Knowing I don’t have the same readership as Pastor Cho, this is your chance to share a piece of your mind and know that 1,000,000 people won’t read it.

Time to get jiggy wit’ it! Be creative! Thanks in advance :)

Friday

This is one of those Fridays I wish I could forget. It started out on a sour note and caused the rest of the day to viewed upon with a bad attitude.

I’m glad it’s Friday as that means the weekend is here, but I just feel like nothing got accomplished this past week and I’m racing to get things done: I have a website update that was promised yesterday, trying to sand down some spots on my office door so it will close freely (which now causes more painting to be done), I have to call a client, send a FedEx, ate a fast food chicken sandwich that is making me nauseous, have a friend coming in from out of town--all the while my oldest daughter is in my family room waiting on me so I can run some errands with her. That doesn’t even include the crappy situation that arose this morning!

However, after writing all that out, I know that these are things to be done and that time will wait for me to be completed. I shouldn’t stress or despair or have a negative attitude. I mean, things could be worse…much worse! Even then, because of who I am and whose Spirit is in me, I would have no excuse to complain. I just need to be patient, focused, at-peace, and appreciate all the positive things that have this week: My home office 99.5% complete, I’ve got to visit with my oldest 3 times this week, It’s 80 degrees and sunny near the end of October, I have a roof over my head, food in my stomach, and amazing friends that I wouldn’t trade for anyone else!

It’s easy to make today about me and my junk, but I choose not to. Part of that is reminding myself through writing this out. I have a lot to be thankful for, which I will not lose sight of because of my circumstances today.

Happy Friday!

Finding Jesus at a Georgia truck stop

In today’s world of ministry, where words like: church planting, missional, or organic are all the buzz, I totally appreciate when a guy gets a calling from God and follows it through who he is, rather than who he thinks the ministry world wants him to be.

Joe Hunter is going out and ministering to truck drivers and keeping it real--He is being true to who he is. He’s not out on speaking tours talking about how to be the next big church model or claiming that he knows how God is doing a new work. Nope. He’s just digging into his home at a Georgia truck stop, sharing his life story, and asking others to come to know Jesus in a real and personal way.

When most people would disregard his ministry based on what they think works today, Reverend Joe is doing things in an old school way and he’s making a difference with truck drivers. He’s being a missionary to a group of people that couldn’t fit within a traditional church because their work keeps them on the road. He’s being light in a place that no one else has thought about ministering at.

Thanks Reverend Joe Hunter for staying faithful to God’s calling on your life and for caring about some people that not many of us understand or could be relevant to. May we all someday receive and embrace our calling in such a clear way, even if it isn’t chic or trendy.
