Have you ever been in a place where you’ve spent a lot of time preparing for something, only to come to a point where you are frozen in place with no idea what to do next? It’s like the old expression of being “a deer in the headlights.”
My friend David Meysembourg was the first person I’d ever heard use another expression, “it’s like drinking from a firehose.” I feel as if I’ve done so much study and prayer and application for something, yet as the overwhelming nature of what I’m about to has landed upon me head, I am frozen in place..questioning what to do next.
I’ve always been one that always moved forward in confidence–even though my demeanor may not show it to the rest of the world, my internal spirit always knows things will work out fine. However, at this point in time I feel a little awestruck. I’m starting to question some things and things that I’d already settled on doing. My confidence is a little shaken and it has caused me to pause a bit. I don’t need to take any more drinks from the firehose, yet I can’t help but stand in my tracks and stare at the headlights of oncoming traffic. It’s truly a very weird and foreign experience for me right now.
Mr. Firehose, I’d like to introduce you to Mr. Deer. While it is great that you two can become acquainted with each other, I hope this is just some chance meeting that causes you two never to cross paths again.
