I’ve been giving a lot of thought as to why I blog and what my expectations are from blogging. I’ve seen several bloggers write essays on why it’s important to narrow the focus of ones blog to gain readership. So, I decided I would ask you to help me discern the future of my blog. Should it be more narrow in its focus for the sake of you?
For those that aren’t regular readers of my blog, here is a brief description of who I am:
42 year old Japanese-American that was an atheist for my first 37 years. After God got a hold of me I have been following a call to plant a new church in Sacramento, CA. I am a husband, father, friend, and follower of Christ. I pray regularly and believe that God can do miracles today. I keep an eye on the news locally & globally. At times I can be a twitterholic. My hobbies are graphic design & html and I am a proud Mac fanatic. I am engaging others in social activism and trying to bridge the gap between the have’s & have not’s of the world. I’m a student of culture and trends and hope to be an agent of change that will lead to people being transformed and inspired to do good in this world. I have a heart to see the church represent the community with the same cultural & social diversity that exists Monday -- Saturday be visible on Sunday. I’m lead pastor of a new church plant called Revolution Church Sacramento. I have an Evangelical perspective in my faith and am reformed in my theology, yet believe in the sanctity of God’s sovereign grace. I question a lot of things for the sake of seeking the truth. I embrace technology and the blessings and curses that result from it. People interest me and I’m fascinated by the science behind psychology.
Because of who I am and what interests me, I tend to share on a lot of random subjects on this blog. Do you appreciate the diversity of my blog or would you be more-inclined to be a regular follower if this blog were more-specific? Please do share your thoughts as you will help to shape the future of this blog and how I contribute to cyberspace. Leave a comment or respond with a vote on the poll over on the sidebar to the right. Thanks!

Dave – Personally, I appreciate the diversity of thoughts. It gives me more insight into who you are as a whole person. I see the same advice in terms of blogging, but I don’t regularly seek out blogs that are focused on only one subject.
Besides, a one topic blog can’t contain your personality!! :)
Daniel: Thanks for taking a moment to share your comment. I agree with you, but just curious what others think. So much on the web says I don’t blog properly.
Denny: Thanks and I agree. I do blog for myself anyways and did so for almost 3 years without having any readership. Looks like I attract people that appreciate some randomness and personality and that makes me happy :)
Hi Dave,
I have just started to follow you. I see that we have a bit in common. From Graphics to Mac to web work and of course common faith. From what I see on your blog, you are just being who you are. It doesn’t need to be for anyone else. There will always be someone that connects with your story and will be inspired or challenged by your thoughts and words. Just be faithful in who God has made you. Blogging is like casting your bread upon the water. You never know who will take a bite.
Blessings to you brother.
Shabbat Shalom!

Hi Dave. I’m struggling with whether or not to narrow the focus on my own blog…
But if we narrow our subject matter down, then we’d have to make another blog to contain the other things that we’re driven to write about. Or we’d try to fit certain content into our blog that doesn’t really fit what we said it’d be about.
What can be done??
(A more primary problem for me right now is having too long of posts (also bad for readership, they say). Bleh).
