Still thinking deeply about my creative side and all that conjures up within me. Trying to figure out how to tame it, while unleashing it at the same time. I tend to be an all-or-nothing kinda guy. Accessing my creative side has been a huge problem. Actually, let me re-phrase that. Getting myself to let loose my creativity has been a huge problem. Either I repress it within, or I blast it all over the web for the whole universe to see. I need to embrace my creative nature and find more of a balance within it.
Makoto Fujimara lends some profound wisdom to this notion of creativity as well:
“We want to be on task…unfortunately what happens is that we become this machinery that my friend Nigel Goodwin calls human ‘doings’ rather than human ‘beings’.”
Imagine yourself as a human doing and not a human being. If we are created in the image of God, yet we just stay focused on getting things done rather than enjoying his creation, are we really representative of a Creator God that not only made us, but made everything that surrounds us as well? Fujimara goes on to explain the role of art in human nature:
“Art is what makes us human beings. Art allows us to breathe in and to consider the lilies of the field. What Jesus actually commanded us to do; we don’t do that.”
The awesome thing about all of this, is that creativity does not always reflect art. We can be creative in our approach to things, the way we think, the way we dress, the way we resolve issues…there is just something special that gets released every time we engage our creative side, regardless of whether it is done so in an artistic way.
In the end, I’ve come to the conclusion that creativity fuels our soul. It helps stir up passions within us that when expressed, can actually cause us to contemplate how we view life itself. It is an intrinsic part of our inner being as we were created by the most limitlessly creative God that wants to fellowship with us through the beauty of his creative spirit as we create in the expanse of the symphony that we call life.
My name is Dave, and I am no longer locked into the box that says my Strengthsfinder results:
- Strategic
- Relator
- Arranger
- Achiever
- Responsibility
should prevent me from tapping into my creative spirit. I tend to use creativity often, but don’t embrace it as much as I should. That was in my past and being blocked from my future…take it or leave it, my creative aspect is here to stay!
live, love, laugh…and learn to take time to express your creative side.
