For the past 2 years I have made a resolution to do a Daniel fast and pray with Jentezen Franklin and the folks over at FreeChapel in Gainesville, GA. I have no idea why I did, and I have no idea why I chose not to this year. The first year of the fast was horrible. My body went into shock and I got physically ill. The second year I was fine, but limited the fast to 3 days instead of 10. While I think focusing on God and seeking his plans for our lives as we start a new year is a great thing to do, I felt as if I had a lot more personal housecleaning to do first for 2009.
It took a few weeks to really understand that, but starting this week I feel that I now have my resolutions in order:
- Exercise regularly
- Read the Bible daily
- Get control over my schedule
- Stop sharing so much of my life publicly
- Use the internet more as a resource and less as entertainment
While it’s true that these are the types of things that should be common sense, ordinary things I have struggled with every one of the 5 listed above in the past year. Once I get in the habit of incorporating these 5 things into my life I believe that God will make it clear as to his will for me in 2009 and that I will be better-prepared to succeed at whatever he sets before me.
I have a #6, but I’m still working through that and will save it for another post. Again, as I stated in #4, I need to stop sharing so much of my life publicly :) I figured I’d better post the 5 resolutions though as it will help keep me accountable and possibly some of you may consider praying for me to be faithful in these things.
Did you make any resolutions for 2009? How is it going with them? Maybe we can pray and help hold each other accountable?

Hey Dave, these are good. Just don’t cut back too much on the social networking. We would miss you! :-)
Calvin, you are too kind!
By the way, I checked the coding for my blog theme and couldn’t figure out how to change the light blue background for leaving your info, but I will probably change the theme soon so this won’t be a problem in the future.
Thanks!
