Jake, I completely understand what you mean about the prejudice. Here in the Asian American ministry network of pastors I dialog with, it is very common for us to express the negative aspect of the racism and prejudice we see within Asian American ministry. It's a unique calling that has a definite need for people of grace and willing to experience some pain for the greater good of the people.

Thanks for standing firm with the ministry the Lord has called you to! Thanks also for sharing your perspective. Blessings to you Jake.

Dear brother Dave,

I enjoyed reading your 3 part series titled, Asian-American vs multi-cultural church.

I am a caucasian pastor serving at a predominately Chinese church. It is a bicultural church with an English and Mandarin service.

What I am finding is something that is true of the predominately caucasian church I attended previously. It is root issues of racism or prejudice that seem to stem from what parents have taught their children. In both churches people within leadership positions have demonstrated these issues through their words. It is a sad thing to hear and see. But it drives me to my knees for mind renewal among these people who claim the name of Jesus.

I keep coming back to what Jesus says about becoming little children if we are to enter the kingdom of heaven. Children do not have these issues unless their parents have started training them intentionally of unintentionally to do so. I come back also to the verse that Jesus is the head of His body. Therefore, he is to do our thinking for us so to speak. We are to lay aside our thoughts and ways for His that are higher.

I appreciate reading what you have written. It is a comfort to know that you also want to see God's kingdom on earth of all nations and peoples together that claim the name of Jesus. May God give us wisdom how to live the Bible out in our culture without compromising its authority, truth, and the heart of Jesus for the world.

You are in my prayers,

Jake

Dave:

I agree, the primary purpose of the church is not to be diverse, but to honor God, obey his Word, and make disciples. As we focus on fulfilling the mandates of Christ, in an ethnically diverse community, our churches will naturally become diverse.
