Sunday Night Mind Dump

Totally random thoughts following my Sunday, but I’m still dealing with some insomnia and here is what is in my mind at 3am Monday…Gary Lamb of Revolution Church in Canton, GA calls his weekly Sunday night post “Mind Dump”, so I figured I’d give it a try too :)

  • I was nowhere near as prepared as I should have been for yesterday’s sermon. I felt like it was the best, most-concise, best-flowing message I had ever written, yet in execution it fell a little flat I think.
  • I feel like I need to find a way to find my niche in music and learn to enjoy it.
  • Asked for questions from the church for a Q&A session I have coming up on August 31st. Received some very interesting questions. Some were a little surprising as they seemed to be very elementary in regards to where the faith of our people is perceived to be, but it’s just another reminder that I need to meet the people where they are and help to teach them at their own pace. It’s not about moving at my speed, but about staying in-step with them while steadily moving them forward in their walks of faith. August 31st is going to be a lot of fun I think! :)
  • I’m watching a travel program on PBS HD called Globe Trekker. They are in Greece and will be visiting the Island of Patmos. With all that has been going through my mind the past week, I’ll take this as a sign that I should spend some time meditating on the Book of Revelation, which was written by the Apostle John during his exile on Patmos.
  • Spent the evening relaxing and not doing any work. It was nice as we had a little family board game night after dinner.
  • The younger people reading may not relate to this next thought, but I just watched Stevie Nicks perform on PBS’ Soundstage. Wow, she has held up well considering having lived a life in Rock & Roll for over 33 years! I didn’t realize this, but she actually turned 60 this past May. She doesn’t look a day over 40 (her and my wife Charlotte have a lot in common) and her voice was better today then it was back in the 80′s when she was doing solo work. Funny story, but a lot of people consider her to be Wiccan (witch), yet she has denied that rumor and has even said publicly that she believes that there was a god that must have been watching over her during her years of substance abuse and touring while in the band Fleetwood Mac. She doesn’t claim to be a Christian, but I seriously doubt she is secretly a witch.
  • Just caught a scene on Globe Trekker where the host is walking barefoot on a beach in Greece toward an old church, and it looks exactly like a shot I am using in my title slide for the Footsteps sermon series I just kicked off Sunday…how crazy is that!
  • I’m going to try to get away somewhere this week for a day to unwind and focus on the sermon for next Sunday. It’s about observing Jesus’ walk to the cross and I must be better-prepared this week.

See, told you this was going to be random :)
