Daily Devotion: Proverbs 15

Ever notice how when we are involved in some activity that we shouldn’t be involved in that we are constantly paranoid that someone is watching us? In fact, often-times we actually feel as if we can sense someone’s eyes looking at us and we get startled only to find that when we turn and look there is no one there.

What part of evolution causes us to respond that way? How can natural selection support such a phenomenon? Simply put, it can’t! Some people say it’s our conscience or our inherent will to be moral beings, but that just isn’t enough. No where else in the natural world do any other animals exhibit such behavior. No other animal in the natural world exhibits signs of a conscience.

I believe the answer lies in an understanding of God. Let’s look at Proverbs 15:3:

The eyes of the LORD are everywhere,
keeping watch on the wicked and the good.

Whether we believe in God or not, whether we are doing good or bad, He is there watching over all of it. His eyes are everywhere. As we were born with an inherent nature to know God and to worship Him, when we are doing something we know we shouldn’t do, we feel His presence and it should be telling us something!

In the New Living Translation of Proverbs 15:32 it reads:

If you reject discipline, you only harm yourself;
but if you listen to correction, you grow in understanding.

Won’t you take the opportunity to heed the watchful eyes of the Lord and seek His correction? It’s so amazing how freeing it can be if we just decide to stop doing those things which harm us and ask the Lord for Hiss forgiveness. His mercy is never-ending and His love is more precious than trillions of dollars. To know righteousness and the ways of goodness though knowing the Lord Jesus Christ is an amazing, indescribable thing. May today be the day that you stop rejecting the Lord’s discipline and come to know that the basis of His presence if His eternal love for you. May you begin growing in your understanding of the peace of living in right-standing with the One that created you. His name is Jesus and He knows your name. His arms are open wide waiting for you to run to Him and seek rest in His embrace.
