Are you in a situation where you are calling upon God to provide you with something or to deliver you from something? Maybe you’re in need of a car or a place to call home. Possibly you need strength to break an addiction to pornography or alcohol. Maybe you’re in need of some help with the rent or for groceries? Whatever it is, the one thing we need to stay focused on is that God will call upon us to stand firm in God’s principles first before we may receive our own blessing.
Let’s take a look at Proverbs 11, verse 25 in a few different translations:
The Message Bible-
The one who blesses others is abundantly blessed;
those who help others are helped.NIV-
A generous man will prosper;
he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.Amplified Bible-
The liberal person shall be enriched, and he who waters shall himself be watered.
New American Standard Bible-
The generous man will be prosperous,
And he who waters will himself be watered.
No matter what version you look at, the message is really the same. In a time of need, give of yourself to another and in-turn you will receive what you need.
With the economy being bad here in the US it’s so easy for us to say that we just don’t have anything to give. However, in the economy of heaven, we must realize this just isn’t true! Maybe we can’t get ourselves to give financially, but what about of our time? Surely we have an extra hour somewhere in the week we can give to help someone else out in some small way. However, I do believe that if it is financial help that we need, the Lord blesses us when we are able to bless others first; If we give of what we have in love of others, God will provide for our needs. That is where we show our trust in God and not of our own circumstances. I can’t tell you how many times that I have faced a financial hardship and been approached by someone that had greater need than I or just joyfully chose to give of my finances through providing a meal or help someone get gas so they could get home or something like that where in-return the Lord blessed me in ways to meet my own financial needs. Sometimes money came in unexpected and unlikely places, and other times debts have been forgiven. However it works out, the end result that putting others ahead of ourselves and doing so joyfully is a language that God can respond to.
Is there anyone that could use a little help from you, but you have withheld that assistance believing you needed it for yourself first? Won’t you prayerfully seek guidance from God and see if maybe you should choose to help someone else believing that God is true to His word in Proverbs 11:25 and that He is ready to pour blessing into your life through your faith and action? He who refreshes others will himself be refreshed!
