Daily Devotion: Proverbs 7

Wisdom: We learned it is more valuable than silver & gold, yet we tend to take it for granted. It’s almost like people that spend what they make every month. They have their needs met, but never get ahead; if the job ends for any reason, they will experience a great hardship and scramble to figure out what to do next. When in a comfortable and consistent state of complacency we feel as if things will always be the same. This is one of the lies Satan perpetrates on us!

Proverbs 7:1-3 from The Message Bible exhorts to us:

Dear friend, do what I tell you; treasure my careful instructions.
Do what I say and you’ll live well.
My teaching is as precious as your eyesight—guard it!
Write it out on the back of your hands; etch it on the chambers of your heart.

Just as we can’t take our jobs or income for granted, we must not take wisdom for granted either. In the most-unexpected places and in a state of feeling ultimately prepared for any situation, wisdom can disappear and leave us in a state of panic. We must learn to guard the wisdom of the Lord and value it as much as we value our own eyesight! Just as we are lost without our eyes, we would be much more lost without the Lord’s wisdom.

Do whatever it takes to spend some time in God’s Word and continually seek his wisdom daily. Write a reminder on the back of your hand if necessary! God’s wisdom for us will save us from a lot of pain and mistakes. We may always have a second chance to get it right, but are you sure want to risk it? In reality, we can’t even take for granted that tomorrow will come. Therefore, won’t you start today?

Father God, as we seek your wisdom and realize your glory, may we never take it for granted and value it as much as we value our own eyesight. Lord, pour your wisdom into our lives to meet our needs and to let us be wise to those around us. Protect us with your wisdom and reveal to us your endless stream of instruction to avoid pitfalls. You are good and your mercy endures forever. In the name of Jesus, amen!
