Daily Devotion: Proverbs 6

16 There are six things the LORD hates,
seven that are detestable to him:

17 haughty eyes,
a lying tongue,
hands that shed innocent blood,

18 a heart that devises wicked schemes,
feet that are quick to rush into evil,

19 a false witness who pours out lies
and a man who stirs up dissension among brothers.

One of the things that saddens me the most is when I hear stories of church splits. God calls together a group of people to fellowship and worship together and then all of sudden someone doesn’t like something and the next thing you know they take a group of people from the church and leave to go start a new church in the same community. This is one of the seven detestable things to God as listed in Proverbs 6:19. No one should stir up dissension among brothers.

With all the things going on around us and people going to their graves without knowing the saving grace of Christ, isn’t in the best interest of God’s kingdom to promote unity and peace? Brothers and sisters, let’s work through our differences and be faithful to the gathering place the Lord sent us to. Let’s submit to the leadership and use our gifts to honorr our Heavenly Father and let others in the community come to know Jesus through our humility, peace, and spirit of unconditional love.

I pray that those of you in the middle of something that looks like it may develop into a church split can see the matter(s) reconciled. For those of you that have been involved in such a split already, I pray for healing and restoration to a brotherhood of unity. Most of all I pray that we look above ourselves and realize that it isn’t our church, but instead it is God’s church. God wants to promote unity and humility, not division and pridefulness. Peace and blessings to you!
