Saw this video reposted over at Alastair Vance’s blog and I’m processing it in my mind right now. Most of it speaks on things in exactly the same way I think, but some of them kinda hurt a little, like when I play electric guitar power chords to add a fresh sound to our worship team and get some of the young people connected, but I don’t hit some of the lead notes just right…does this cause me to hinder the church? Is it better that I not play? At the very least, this gives me some more things to pray about in addition to my prayer time for the churches around the world during the One Prayer project.
Watch the video and I’d appreciate your thoughts, whether you lead worship or just worship from the seats of your church:

Dave,
I don’t think it was intended to mean everytime someone misses a note that they are hindering the church. I think the person in this video understands that most of these things are on a continuum. Some repeating is obviously okay, but there is a limit to how much repeating is okay. Same with going beyond your limits in worship. No one will never miss a note here and there, but when there is a song that a leader cannot play well at all and it is distracting to worship, the leader should pick a song that is within reason of his abilities.
Stay strong and keep leading other in worship.

Hey Worshipman, thanks for taking the time to comment and for your insight and encouragement! For me, being involved on the worship team is a struggle. I am fully committed to honoring God during our services on Sunday, but I feel led to preach/teach and be the visionary leader, not be a part of the worship team. However, the more people on the worship team come to do their parts in the right spirit, the more God is blessing me with the ability to play guitar. However, I can’t help but feel at times that my missing a note or something causes a distraction.
I hope and pray that as I do my best to honor God with the limited gifting he has given me to be a technical musician to fill in the gap, that He will bless us with bringing someone in that can honor Him in spirit through a calling to play guitar and lead songs.
